Sea turtles swimming in the basins of Kélonia, the marine turtle observatory in Saint-Leu, La Réunion

Kélonia

Located by the sea in Saint-Leu, Kélonia is a unique site in La Réunion, combining a museum, an aquarium, and a care center dedicated to the protection of sea turtles. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the site welcomes visitors of all ages for an enriching experience, discovering these fascinating yet endangered species.

With audio guides available in several languages, the visit is fully self-guided, blending observation, learning, and awareness. Since its opening in 2006, Kélonia has played a central role in research, treatment, and the rehabilitation of sea turtles on the island.

Visitors can observe the turtles in different pools, including a large rehabilitation basin with direct access to the ocean, where the animals prepare to return to the wild. An educational and moving experience to enjoy with family or friends.
