Roland Garros Airport, located in Sainte-Marie near Saint-Denis, is the main entry point to La Réunion. Arrivals by sea are very rare, and the second airport, Pierrefonds, only serves regional flights.
Opened in 1936 as Gillot Airport, named after the landowner, it was later renamed Roland Garros in honor of the Réunion-born aviator. Saint-Denis airport has two runways, unique in French overseas territories, and can accommodate large aircraft like the A380. In 2019, nearly 2.5 million passengers passed through the airport. By 2022, a new bioclimatic terminal will allow the airport to handle over 3 million travelers per year.
To make the most of your stay, renting a car upon arrival is the easiest solution. Tropicar’s agency is located inside the airport, just a few steps from the terminal. Book online, pick up your car at the counter, and start your trip smoothly. Our staff will guide you to your vehicle for a stress-free departure.
